The Good Doctor(s) Part 2

Hello folks, hope that you all had a very pleasant Thanksgiving here in the US and if not, then I hope that you all had a very pleasant week. This is the final batch of Doctors that I had drawn up specifically for the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. I must admit that this is my favorite of the two batches.

This is the suave, vegetable wearing, cricket enthusiast Fifth Doctor and he was played by the Peter Davison and his reign lasted from 1981-1984.

This garishly colored gentleman is the Sixth Doctor and I'm not altogether too sure why he was, but he was one of my favorites to draw. The Sixth Doctor was played by Colin Baker and his reign lasted from 1984-1986.

 

This quirky little gentleman with the bumbershoot is the Seventh Doctor and he was played by the equally quirky Sylvester McCoy (to most modern audiences, he is the one who played a great version of the eccentric wizard Radagast the Brown in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey). His reign was rather spotty, it lasted from 1987-1989 and then he popped up in 1996 for a one-night-only TV special.

This Lord Byron-like Doctor was the Eighth Doctor and he was played, rather magnificently, by Paul McGann. This Doctor started off in a one-night-only TV special in 1996 and ended his reign, in a manner of speaking, this year with the Mini Episode "The Night of the Doctor" and if you haven't seen it, then I highly recommend it.

This rather gloomy gentleman was the Ninth Doctor and he was played by Christopher Eccleston. He revived Doctor Who successfully in 2005 and he ended his reign that year, lasting only from March to June. Although it was short, he did help tremendously by reviving the series. Now the Ninth Doctor actually came into being in this past episode "The Day of the Doctor," for those who don't know SPOILERS (well, kind of), he is regenerated from John Hurt's "War Doctor" (I suppose that is his name).

This long-coated, gravity-defying haired gentleman is the Tenth Doctor and he was played, rather brilliantly by David Tennant and he is actually the Doctor that I grew up watching, so I have a bit of a soft spot for his particular Doctor (although the Fourth or the Seventh have to be my favorites). His reign lasted from 2005-2010.

This bow-tie wearing, chin-tastic gentleman is the Eleventh Doctor and he is currently being played by the equally brilliant Matt Smith and his fading reign will end this very year and was started in 2010. I do find that this Doctor is very well up there on the list of favorite Doctors, with his childish, yet professorial, persona that won me over quite instantly. Even after his reign ends, Bow-ties will still be cool.

 

 

Alrighty folks, that's it for now, but I hope to keep posting some brand-new things on this grand list of ramblings and hope that in the coming year that I will keep updating it, more than I have this year. The Good Doctor(s)

Howdy Everybody! It's been a while since I've posted anything up here and thought that it was about time. I've been very busy working on various projects, including a very successful art show in which ALL of my pieces, much to my surprise. Anyways, this past weekend was the monumental 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, my all time favorite show! In commemoration of the event I decided to draw and paint all the Doctors.

 

Here is the First Doctor, which was played by the great William Hartnell. His reign lasted from 1963-1966.

The Second Doctor played the whimsical cosmic hobo and was performed by Patrick Troughton. His reign lasted from '66-'69.

The Swashbuckling Third Doctor was played by the dandy Jon Pertwee. His reign lasted from '70-'74.

The Fourth Doctor with the cumbersome scarf was played by the great ball of energy, Tom Baker and his reign was, by far, the longest. Spanning from '74-'81.

Right, now I just wanted to keep you folks out there in the ether in the know and wanted to inform you that my grasp on technology has branched out some since the last post. The Doctor Is In, Pt. 2

Here is the second (and last) part of my parodies of the famous Doctor Who.

Doctor When & his companion, the misanthropic squirrel, Hedley.

Doctor Where & his trusty sonic plunger

Doctor Why & his companion, the sarcastically silent parrot, Bob.

I had a great time creating these oddball characters, granted they might be rather lame jokes, but I enjoyed creating them all the same. The inspiration of Doctor When was a combination of the Fourth & Tenth Doctor (who I have a soft spot for since I grew up with Tennant's Doctor), and, rather obviously, the movie Blazing Saddles (where I got the name of Hedley from). The inspiration of Doctor Where was a combination of the Ninth (hence the leather jacket), Fifth (due to the sneakers) Tenth (the sort of gravity-defying hair, the sort of paisley tie, and, in turn, the sneakers), & the Eleventh Doctor (my current, all-time favorite). Doctor Why's inspiration was derived from the Fourth (the scarf and long coat), the Fifth (the sneakers), & the Tenth Doctor (hence the sneakers and long coat, again) also the way it was drawn and painted was inpsired by illustrator Edward Gorey and they were all drawn with the same medium as the previous two. As you readers can tell by the previous posts I've done recently, I'm a bit of a fan of Doctor Who. So, just purely out of whim, I decided to create other versions of the famous Time Lord. Behold, here starts the unlikely exploits of the Good Doctor's rather ragtag bunch of Time-Lords and traveling comerades.

Notes: the first drawing was inspired by the Seventh & Sixth Doctor and the last one was inspired by the Fourth(one of my favorites), Seventh (another favorite), and the Sixth Doctor. They were drawn with a Micron pen (point 01) and painted with watercolor paint.

Bigger On The Inside

When looking for time travel stories it seems virtually and astronomically impossible not to stumble upon the television show Doctor Who. It is, like I said in my previous post, one of my favorite shows and I watched an episode entilted "The Doctor's Wife," written by the amazing author Neil Gaiman. As I was watching it an idea kind of popped into my head: "What if I had a Tardis?" I then went into the sort of mechanics about my version of the Tardis and what it would be like. The idea was what if this model of the Tardis would get sort of everything from every sort of era imaginable and sort of mashed it all together and it would have various doors that lead you through different ways, or something like that. I then set to work. What I did first was do various sketches of the classic police box from the show itself, and other actual police boxes, and then I just devoured history books and looked at the artistry from various eras. For some odd reason, I couldn't just abandon the notion of the Tardis being a police box, so I kept the sort of basic layout of a police box, complete with a light at the top of it. I then just did various eccentric designs for the doors (you can't see the others, but there are 4 doors all together, just thought I should clear that up). As I was drawing this I was also watching Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock and I then I saw the lantern that is on a rail that stands in front of the door of 221b. I then decided to put, at the top of every door, a sort of lantern, which will comprise of various colors when I'm finished.

I then decided to test my new Micron pen that I bought and just drew over my pencil marks and erased the pencil when it was dry. What I then did was do a base of light blue, another homage to the show, and just started using various colors to see how it turned out. I'm not quite done, but I shall keep you folks posted as soon as I make progress. Hope you enjoy it and try something like it, too.

The Tardis is Cool & So is Quidditch

 I had recently bought a Micron brand drawing pen (with a point of 01, for those who are curious) and, instead of the usual dip pen and ink, I decided to take the Micron for a test run, so to speak. This first scribble here is just a sort of mash-up of my favorite things about one of my favorite television shows, Doctor Who, so I just sort of made up my own version of the main character, The Doctor, with his trusty sonic screwdriver and a shortly-lived fez. The colored bits in this drawing were done with a Sharpie marker and a fine-point Sharpie pen (red for the tartan design on his coat and blue for the bulb of the sonic screwdriver).

This next drawing was just one of my all time favorite books when I was growing up, Harry Potter. I could go on and on about it and how just bloody awesome and inspiring it was, but that's for another time. Granted, it might not be a good version of the Boy Who Lived, but, like I said, it was a test run. This drawing was painted with watercolor and I used red Sharpie pen to emphasize the red stripes in Harry's sweater (and it might look like his sweater is red and white, but I swear I meant for it to have the Gryffindor colors, and sorry, in advance for the sort of ovular frame around Harry, it's a bit wonky, I know).
