Howdy Everybody! It's been a while since I've posted anything up here and thought that it was about time. I've been very busy working on various projects, including a very successful art show in which ALL of my pieces, much to my surprise. Anyways, this past weekend was the monumental 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, my all time favorite show! In commemoration of the event I decided to draw and paint all the Doctors.
Here is the First Doctor, which was played by the great William Hartnell. His reign lasted from 1963-1966.
The Second Doctor played the whimsical cosmic hobo and was performed by Patrick Troughton. His reign lasted from '66-'69.
The Swashbuckling Third Doctor was played by the dandy Jon Pertwee. His reign lasted from '70-'74.
The Fourth Doctor with the cumbersome scarf was played by the great ball of energy, Tom Baker and his reign was, by far, the longest. Spanning from '74-'81.
Right, now I just wanted to keep you folks out there in the ether in the know and wanted to inform you that my grasp on technology has branched out some since the last post. If you would like to follow me on Instagram then my username is 3dullahans or if you would like to follow me on tumblr then I can be found under either brandybard or 3dullahans (because I am zealously creative). I hope to post the rest of the doctors up here, soon.
Sorry about the whole posting-once-every-month thing. I've been trying to keep some sort of regular schedule, but obviously it hasn't really worked. In the meantime, here are some doodles that I've done quite recently. Both of these drawings were drawn with a point 01 Micron pen on Moleskine paper. I've been testing different characters and such and these are the result.
This particular drawing was just an experimentation on how I could draw shadows. I mainly looked at the works of W. Heath Robinson and Mike Mignola, who is undoubtedly the master of working shadows into his work and Robinson is just another Golden Age master of drawing.
Anyways...hopefully I'll be posting some more NEW drawings before the month is out.
(This theme just popped in as soon as I wrote the tite of this particular post)
Holy Mother of the GODS...it's been a while. Sorry about the prolonged absence, but I haven't really had the time, at least before I didn't have the time. I could list out the woes and such, but I don't want to bore you kind readers, but now I have....DRAWINGS!!! (or, more specifically, two paintings and a drawing)
This character was...well...I don't quite know what he was, but I had done this particular character before in some of my other, older, sketchbooks from when I was in high school. He was drawn with a Micron point 01 pen and painted with watercolor paint, his little scarf decorations there were drawn with Sharpies.
I started reading The Once and Future King, by T. H. White, it's a good book, but there's a sequal to that particular book entitled The Book of Merlyn and it was illustrated by Trevor Stubley and I was inspired by one of the illustrations of the book. So, I decided to draw and paint up my own version of Merlin. It could also be Dumbledore, but don't all the legendary wizards look alike, admit it. This was drawn and painted with the same materials as mentioned previously.
This little character was drawn while I was hanging out with some of my friends. I wasn't bored, it's just that I felt like drawing this little character. He was slightly inspired by the work of an amazing artist by the name of Jean-Baptiste Monge, you should really check out his work (there is a link to his Facebook page). Unlike the previous characters, who were drawn on watercolor paper, this was one of the first drawings to adorn a new Moleskine sketchbook, and it was drawn with a Micron pen, point 01, same as the previous two.
Well, that's all, for now, but if you would like to take a gander at these characters and some other characters, I have two different tumblr blogs that you kind readers can gawk at and a facebook page that you can waste some time on, even though, admittedly, there's barely anything on it. There should be more doodles coming soon. Thanks for sticking around.
There's some news on the horizon, folks. I'm starting something on Youtube and I think that it will be an interesting experience. In the meantime, here are some actually new drawings. Now, I've recently watched the Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and I've read the book as well (which is a really good read) and I've been in a Hobbit-y mood so I've been drawing various scenes from the Hobbit and the various characters from the book.
This one is the first drawing I've ever draw of Bilbo Baggins. This was almost entirely inspired by the movie with Martin Freeman's portrayl of Mr. Baggins.
This was entirely inspired by my own version of Bilbo that developed as I read the book itself. This was inspired by the scene when Biblo was sneaking through the forest towards the three trolls. Now this version might upset almost every hard core Tolkien fan, but this version seems to make sense to me. Bilbo was a character that would have packed his entire home and taken it with him on the journey, if he could. So I think that he would have looked like a bit of a posh British adventure and pseudo-huntsman, so Bilbo decides to adorn an Inverness cape and his best scarf and just looks like a bit of a well-dressed country Squire. Again, it only seems to make sense to me, but I enjoyed drawing him all the same.
Anyways, I'm very excited about the new things that are about to happen with Youtube and I will hopefully find more time to put some more doodles up here, soon. Right-o, hope you folks are well.
Cheers,
A. Taylor
Notes: the first and second Bilbos were drawn with waterproof ink and the second Bilbo was detailed with just a regular pencil. Still thinking about watercoloring them.
Technology is finally starting to work in my favor, I'm finally able to post some pictures up here on the blog.
Anyways, with that little bit of relief out of the way, now I can explain some of the new pictures up here. These little paintings were done for a contest in which various artists were called upon to draw up some nymphs and I found out that one of the judges for this particular contest is one of my heroes, TONY DITERLIZZI! I could not resist, so I came up with these little cartoons.
This particular picture is entitled "Sir Orpheus & The Nymphs," and it is my favorite out of the three of them, honestly. I think that it is because the rather melancholy knight was my favorite thing to draw and paint. This was drawn with waterproof ink and painted with Reeves watercolor paint and Prismacolor watercolor pencils. Some of the bark on the tree to the right and the grass was colored out with Sharpie markers.
This particular one is entitled "I Spy With My Little Eye," just because they all seemed to be playing I Spy to me, but that's just me. This one was drawn and painted in the same medium as the first.
As you keen readers will have noticed, the first picture and the second, that the signature is backwards. The reason behind that is that my trusty scanner malfunctioned on me (do you sense a pattern with me and technology), so I had to improvise and use my webcam to take quick shots of the pictures.
This one was entitled "The Trickster & The Queen," and this was definitely inspired by W. W. Denslow's illustrations for The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, by L. Frank Baum, particularly with the guards at either side of the Queen with the hydrangeas at the end of their rifles. They were my favorite parts of this picture. Done with the same medium as the previous pieces.
Now the results for the contest will be presented the 28th of this month (less than a week away), and, in the meantime you folks can see the other artists' submissions (which are far, far, FAR more impressive than my meager efforts) and you can merely click here.
Howdy Folks, hope that you are all doing well, and having an excellent Holiday Season, so far. Sorry about the hiatus for about a month, but schooling tends to get in the way of that sometimes. Anyways, I have been working on a little series for the Christmas season entitled the 12 days of Christmas. I know what you folks are thinking: "boy that's an original idea," in a snarky and sarcastic way. Oh well, I've come up with something I think you kind readers might enjoy. While you folks are waiting for that, here's a hand-drawn slide show that I did for a music class recently. It was about the scores and the composers of the Harry Potter film series. It might not be my best work, but I hope that you enjoy it.
Here's a comic that I quickly drew up when I was bored one day. I had a ball coming up with this bombastic, over-dramatic character. This was drawn with waterproof ink and a dip pen. I should have a good, and painted, version of this little comic.
Here's a darker copy in case the previous wasn't that legible.
Howdy folks, sorry I haven't posted in a while, but I have recently been working on a series of drawings and paintings for an art show that is coming up in October. This is one of the pictures that I've been working on entitled "Holmes & The Hound," which is a bit of a fun drawing based on The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle. This was drawn with a Micron pen (point 01) and was "painted" using an inkwash technique, using both waterproof and regular ink. I then used a dip pen and waterproof ink to write out the text on the parchment which tells the story of the Hound of the Baskervilles. I used white acrylic paint to do a bit of fog and other effects. I had a great time illustrating this picture and hopefully you great folks will find this in a frame pretty soon.
There will be more drawings and I shall hopefully post them in good time.
I have been fiddling with the creation of a sort of icon for this blog, if there would ever be on. I was doodling one day and came up with this ink-black balloon.
Then I went onto a website called picmonkey and played around with it further.
This was the "final result," just not quite sure what to do with it, really. It's merely an idea for the time being.
When I was bored one day, actually when I had a bought of writer's block on a paper I was writing, I got out some of my drawing things and began doodling. The outcome of that bought of boredom was this collection of small portraits of one of my favorite comics, Tintin.
Here is the good Professor Calculus.
The world-weary Captain Archibald Haddock
Here are the heros of the piece: Tintin & Snowy (Milou).
These were drawn with a dip pen and waterproof ink (they might even be watercolor'd one of these days).
Right-o, since I haven't corresponded to you folks in some time, I thought that I ought to post this particular work. In the previous post I only had the ink'd bit of it finished, but now, as you can see, it is now in color. This was finished using watercolor paint and some regular ink for the umbrella and the bowler hat.
This amiably dapper octopus is a design that a friend of mine asked me to do. I'm going to add some color on here soon, but for the time being, here is the pen and ink version of the drawing. The was first drawn in pencil then drawn with a black Micron pen (point 01). Hope to have some more doodles up here soon.
My sister asked me a couple of weeks ago to create a banner for her blog entitled Mary's Critical Times. She also asked me to incorporate something about film around it so I picked out some of the best films and TV shows and just sort of mixed everything in. The list of films Incorporated into the banner, if you would like to check them out, are as follows:
This banner was drawn with a variety of mediums. I drew the moon and the rocket along with the stars with waterproof ink and a dip pen. I then used regular ink to create the inkwash effect. I drew the letters with blue waterproof ink and a dip pen and the red letters I drew with red waterproof Sharpie pen. After that was dry I then used just water, while some of the blue ink was still wet, and then brushed it around the letters for another inkwash effect and then I drew the paisley marks with a blue Sharpie pen. I then drew the rest of it with a Micron pen (01 point) and then used watercolors to color the rest of it (save for the Tardis, which was colored with a blue Sharpie pen).
This was just something I did merely because I was bored. I have no clue what in blue blazes it could be, possibly something from the mind of H. P. Lovecraft (?), but I enjoyed drawing and painting it. After I painted it I went to a site called picmonkey and did the frame and the words Good Day above it.
This was drawn with a dip pen and ink and then painted with watercolor paint. After the paint dried I then drew out the paisley design on his lapel and the iris as well as the feathers with a Sharpie pen (blue and red).
As you readers can tell by the previous posts I've done recently, I'm a bit of a fan of Doctor Who. So, just purely out of whim, I decided to create other versions of the famous Time Lord. Behold, here starts the unlikely exploits of the Good Doctor's rather ragtag bunch of Time-Lords and traveling comerades.
Doctor What & his Outrageously Ostentatious Overcoat of Obscurity.
Doctor How & The Incredibly Slow Snails From BEYOND!
Hope you readers enjoy them! There will be more to come!
Keep a sharp eye out...
Notes: the first drawing was inspired by the Seventh & Sixth Doctor and the last one was inspired by the Fourth(one of my favorites), Seventh (another favorite), and the Sixth Doctor. They were drawn with a Micron pen (point 01) and painted with watercolor paint.
I've been still doing some test runs with my new Micron pen and this first drawing is based off of a hovercar from a book that I recently finished called The Search for WondLa, by author and illustrator Tony DiTerlizzi. It is a great book and so is the one that follows it called A Hero for WondLa, I highly recommend them.
This next drawing is of one of my favorite characters, Severus Snape from Harry Potter. Granted this one isn't finished yet and he isn't dressed in his professorial robes, but I thought that it would be interesting to draw Snape in civilian clothes and lost in thought, so to speak. I'll be posting the finished product up here soon.
This last drawing was just a little character that I doodled one day and just inked it with the Micron.
Right-o, thanks for enduring the rambling, I'll have something official up here soon, with any luck.
